How do you decide what you will write on your blog?
I spend time thinking about what I will write on my blog before I ever post. How do you go about figuring out what you will write about in your next blog article?
Allow ideas to marinate in your brain.
One of the best ways to decide on what I’ll write about in my blog’s next article is to go find a nice, relaxing place to kick back and think about my article. I think about various areas of my niche. Also, I consider the different kinds of blog articles I could write, such as a question article or a list article.
Use the search engines.
Sometimes I find it helpful to read about my topics elsewhere on the Internet. This can be helpful. Sometimes I receive inspiration from a website I visit, or by reading resources about how to write blog articles. This is how many a blog author has hit upon a useful idea for an entire pillar series!
Read other blogs in your niche.
There are many interesting blogs that discuss topics similar to Blogger tips for beginners. This is where Technorati comes in handy. I’ve often been inspired by other bloggers. In fact, it was Yaro Starak who wrote the Blog Profits Blueprint that inspired me to start blogging in the first place!! Darren Rouse’s ProBlogger.net blog contains many fabulous articles that I found personally inspiring. Darren has so many incredible ideas for so many different kinds of blog articles that it’s amazing!! If you like to read blogs, you can get lost in there for hours at a time. His blog is simply engrossing and addictive! Just when you think you’ve finally got him all sized up, he comes up with yet another dazzling idea for an entire article series. Wow, is all I can say.
Sleep on it. Or, take a vacation.
You’d be amazed how many ideas you might come up with if you just take a break from the blog. Go out on a fishing outing with your kids. Just think, you could write an article about how you came up with a great article while you were out fishing! Kick back after the fishing expedition, after you’ve just stuffed yourself with freshly grilled fish with dollops of butter, and sleep on it. You’ll have a wonderful idea for a great blog article when you wake up. Another idea is to go on a one-day jaunt to the local beach. Surf, fish, go crabbing, laze around in the sun catching a few rays, and hit up a few nightclubs. Sometimes all it takes is to get away from it all for a day. When you get back, you’ll be refreshed and you’ll come up with all kinds of great ideas about what you’ll write in your blog.
Discuss it with your friends or business associates.
I like to get together with people and have a brainstorm session. I write down all the ideas that come to mind, no matter how outlandish. Then we go through them and discard the ones we don’t like, gradually narrowing them down to about five that look promising. Then I choose one and run with it.
Hit the blogging forums.
There are several excellent blogging forums that I frequent. One is the Authority Bloggers Forum. If I go to one of these blogging forums, it usually isn’t long before I have a great idea for my next blog article. I read threads until I come up with something. One sure-fire idea is to look for what other bloggers are asking about, what they need help with on the forums, then take that away to your blog, write up an informative article about that, then publish it on your blog.
Then you go back to the forums and answer the blogger’s question, with a resource link back to your own blog. This is a Win-Win-Win scenario for your blog, the forum, and the blogger with a question. The blogger’s question is answered, you and the forum get more traffic, and people naturally look to your blog as a resource.
How do you go about the process of deciding what you’ll be writing in your next blog article? Your comments and questions are encouraged and welcomed!!
