I could go even farther afield and try gadget blogs, computer blogs, computer help forums and websites, psychology blogs/forums, business blogs and forums and others. You need to brainstorm different topics to explore outside your chosen set of blogging topics.
You should use many of the same tactics in these external topics that you use within your own niche. By this I mean join blog carnivals, guest post on a few of these blogs, participate in group writing projects and participate in social media that pertains to these external topics.
