Time To Divide The Blogging Spectrum
Step One To Separate the Good From the Bad
I’ve found that there are a range of bloggers out there and I am just beginning to classify them, based on some of the blogs I’ve run across.
Your feedback on this is needed because we can probably divide quality and non-quality blogs and ensure we divide the blogging spectrum to better support the “quality blogging movement”.
As more and more blogs grow, taxonomy and classification is vital. We must separate blogs by topic and by quality within each topic. Some are to be completely ignored or rated low for poor quality. Others quite the opposite.
That’s where my blog rating scheme comes in handy, s I’ve discussed in another article. All my articles are linked to your left, by the way.
Here are some of my thoughts on separating the blogosphere – first by type of blogger:
Pure Junk Bloggers
These kind are actually not bloggers at all, but are only out to post something quickly in order to gain the search engine advantage via keywords, multiple and regular posts over time. Eventually they die out since they are purely spam of little value. Grade = F
Poseur Bloggers
Some pretend to blog for a good purpose when they really aren’t blogging for anything other than making money on ads and affiliate programs.
They pose to have content, rarely have enough quality content and yet make decent money on the Internet because of various tricks and techniques as well as just enough quality content to get by.
Not a good way to go, in my opinion, once the search engine and blog world catches up and the quality blogging movement catches full swing.
Their grade for a quality Blog = D-
Ego Bloggers
Others blog because they do have a big ego and think what they say is the only way it should be. Those are your extreme narcissists. Now I will say everyone has an ego to a degree, but these types have BIG egos…
Busybody Bloggers
Some blog because they must do something constantly and blogging fills that void for them. They jump from topic to topic and are a random blogger. Nothing really wrong with that, just that they may never nail down a niche and perhaps they don’t want to.
Boring Bloggers
These may have good content but it is boring or dull, either too long or too scientific or abstract or otherwise uninteresting.
Opinionated Bloggers
These bloggers are full of opinion. They may be controversial, egotistical or boring but they avoid the extreme sides of these and are usually interesting enough to read, but may not add as much value since it’s all their opinion anyhow. While they may have fact mixed in, it may not be trustworthy enough or may have a mix of truth and opinion.
We all have opinions, but some use opinion as the basis for their blog rather than use opinion within their blog. Make sense?
Controversial Bloggers
These are the bloggers who use controversy and debate to gain readership and a net of support or audience at least. They use controversy for traffic as well as to express themselves. They may or may not create value.
Niche Bloggers
These blog about things in their niche or specialty and can build a loyal audience or following based on a hobby or topic of strong interest, loyalty and following.
Buzz Bloggers
These blog things that are the latest fad or vogue, the latest buzz. They can also be called Zeitgeist bloggers who blog according to the spirit of the times so to speak,
Entertainment Bloggers
These blog about celebs and the latest and greatest gossip. Since most of the top Internet searches are based on this they are highly trafficked. They probably make a good amount on affiliate ads such as ringtones and music for sale online.
Fad Bloggers
These blog only because they follow the latest in thing, and so they blog since having a blog is the in thing. The longevity and quality is low, though I’m sure some sites like myspace may disagree. Mostly teens in this category.
Helpful (Quid-Pro-Quo) Bloggers
These blog about things that help people with solid advice whether it’s about fitness, blogging, finances or anything in between. These are often also somewhat niche or multi-topic with a certain area of emphasis or expertise.
In return for their help, they get traffic, links and their ads and affiliate programs score bank…at least to some exent. That’s how it outta be. They can also be called real…
Quality Bloggers
These are bloggers who focus on content first, SEO and marketing and ads/affiliate stuff second. They have the right balance, and are some of the most successful bloggers out there. Examples?
These have a combo of some or all or many of the above. This is an art more than a science by the way, so the rules are changing and are not as in stone but at least what I’ve stated is probably about 80% true and will stay that way in my opinion…
