If you have been researching the Google Adsense program, which I have to assume you have been if you ended up on this blog, then you are probably familiar, or have at least heard of the term; Adsense empire. If you have no heard of the term Adsense empire, don’t get scared, it is not a plot by Google to take over the world, at least not yet anyways. In basic terms an Adsense empire is a large group of sites owned by one person or business with the sole intent of publishing loads of content, having lots of traffic, and as an end result, having a portion of these visitors click on their Adsense ads.
There is a great debate as to whether these Adsense empires are better then going with just a single website, and I must admit the Adsense empire supports do have a point. It is a lot less work to build a website that can make $1 per day from Adsense then it is to build a website that can make $100 per day from Adsense. However, an Adsense empire usually consists of 100 or more of these $1 per day websites.
The more traditional people are of course on the other side of the fence supporting the idea of building a site and sticking to it, regularly adding original content and achieving Adsense success over a period of time. These people also generally advise that it is better to make a website about a topic you are passionate about instead of a site you simply think will make money.
While it is easy to see the view point of both sides, I really can not side with one over the other. The truth is most people today are making websites for the sole purpose of making money. Sure there are still many passion projects, but I think the two are totally separate entities with completely different goals. A person starting a website as a passion project may or may not have even considered the idea of making money from their website.
Eventually a passion project may turn to a program like Google Adsense in order to generate enough money to cover hosting fees and the like, but a huge profit is usually not the motivation behind a passion project. On the other hand, those looking to simply make money probably could not care less what their website(s) are about so long as they are showing a profit.
Personally, whenever I decide to start a new website I pick a little from column A and a little from column B. I will usually make a list of subjects I am already knowledgeable on, or a subject I would like to be knowledgeable on. I then either write all new content either from my mind or through research and then publish it on a regular basis to the site. Once I feel I have learned what I wanted on the subject, I will then look to my Adsense profits to decide whether or not to keep the site going. If it is turning a decent profit, I most likely keep it until it stops showing a profit, if after I have lost interest in the topic, the site is showing no profit I will usually cut my losses and either close the site, or from time to time sell it off for a small profit.
The main thing to remember whichever route you decide to go is to stick to original content. Not only will this give you a better chance to have return visitors, and therefore return Adsense clickers; it also greatly helps your search engine rankings. While it may seem appealing to purchase one of those “Adsense in a box” packages that contain 100-250 pre-made sites revolving around high paying keywords;
you have to remember that chances are there hundreds if not thousands of your exact same website already on the internet, and even worse; hated by the search engines. Now, if you buy one of these packages and rewrite the articles contained in it, then you just may be on your way to starting your very own Adsense empire.
